Vernacular

\və(r)-na-kyə-lər\

1. The standard native language of an area
2. of, relating to, or characteristic of a period, place, or group

In August and September of 2012, I moved to Healdsburg, California in the Sonoma Valley, to create a set of works titled Vernacular.

As a mixture of photography and found/made objects, Vernacular aimed to capture a sudden transition from city to rural, east to west, and an immersion into localized experience, thought and landscapes.

During this time, Sonoma’s rich agrarian life unfolded; the summer sun shone continuous, building energy and finally giving way to a bountiful fall harvest.

Exhibited from Oct 6 to November 11, 2012, at the Healdsburg Center for the Arts, the project will lead into work as Artist in Resident in 2013 at Stags’ Leap Winery in the Napa Valley.
