We live in an age of media overload. Imagery and sound bombard us from every angle. Advertisements adorn every viewable surface, while commercial slogans fill up an increasingly large portion of our mental space. 47 built the Saturation Engine to help answer a question: What happens to our conscious and unconscious mind as it approaches and moves beyond the point of media saturation?
The Saturation Engine is a media hacking tool. It is simultaneously a computer program and art project, or perhaps a computer project and art program. It speeds multiple media images to a point of crystallization, a point where new forms emerge.
Three of the main projects: 911: State of Emergence, Flags, and Logos, will soon be featured in an EP record, art, and web-based release.
From 2001 until the present, the Saturation Engine served as the engine behind several projects created by 47, often in collaboration with DJ Spooky. These projects were shown at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, SXSW, NY Digital Media Salon, and around the world in Spooky's visual mix.
